Have you ever had a voice inside your head telling you "your not good enough”, “you can’t do that” or “nobody could love you”. These thoughts are known as subconscious thoughts and are constructed from the beliefs that was formed in your early years. Some beliefs can be limiting beliefs that are formed from trauma or negative events in our life. They are stories we've told ourselves, shaped by past experiences, societal expectations, and internalised fears.
The ego is what reinforces these beliefs to maintain a sense of identity and control. The ego’s role is to defends your sense of self. It’s concerned with survival, security, and validation. The ego seeks to preserve its identity and avoid anything that threatens it. The ego uses limiting beliefs as defence mechanisms to protect you from perceived harm or failure. For instance, if you once failed at something, the ego might create the belief, "I'm not good enough" to prevent you from trying again and risking further emotional pain. Because the ego fears change and uncertainty, it will hold onto limiting beliefs as a way to keep you safe and comfortable, even if these beliefs are no longer useful. Letting go of limiting beliefs would mean a transformation in your sense of identity, which the ego sees as a threat.
